What Will You Do?

Today I glued myself to FoxNews.  I am so saddened by the devastation in Haiti and kept trying to think of some way I could help.  I updated my facebook often with ideas…and am trying to get my daughter’s school to allow me to organize a school fundraiser.

I got a little more proactive too… I immediately donated to the American Red Cross…very fast and easy.

But…I wanted to involve Lil Z, my 7-year-old daughter. I feel it’s important for our children to realize that they can make an impact in their world.  Lil Z and I sat down and watched about 15 minutes of the news so she could see the images of the houses and some of the people.  We then talked about it and discussed ways that we can help.  Lil Z was surprised that SHE could do something to help the people who were so sad, scared and lost everything.  This weekend Lil Z is making posters and coin jars and will be distributing them to area businesses next week to collect donations…she already has 3 locations lined up!  Hoping to get 10 minimum!  Together we then looked at the agencies on the FoxNews website, and she decided to donate the money that she raises to the Red Cross.  The only part that was a little confusing for her is that the money would go for food, clothing and supplies…she wanted the money to “buy toys for the kids so that they would smile again.”  I love her so much.

So…here’s your moment.  It doesn’t take a lot to make a difference…even the change in your pocket helps.

Miep Gies ~ Strength and Beauty

“I am not a hero. There is nothing special about me. I have never wanted special attention. I was only willing to do what was asked of me and what seemed necessary at the time.” ~Miep Gies

Miep Gies was one of my personal heroes, and was known as a hero by many.  However, Miep Gies never thought of what she did as being heroic and was uncomfortable being thought of as one…she just did what she felt was right.   Miep Gies responded when others were blinded by ignorance or fear…her actions are a reminder not to turn our backs on others…no matter how ugly our world might seem….

May her memory be for a blessing

The Warmest Love

Why are children so adorable.  Why do their big eyes make you want to just snuggle them and give in to their whims?  You think that nothing can get into your heart so deep that it hurts…and then there they are.

We ache for them.

We love them.

We protect them.

And in turn, they give us the greatest joy…

I guess that’s why, last night when I wandered up to bed.  I went to check on my daughter, to tuck her in a little tighter, and kiss her warm cheek.  Looking at her, I couldn’t stand it…I had to have her in my arms.  She’s growing so fast, and I know that soon she will be at the point where she no longer wants to snuggle and have time with me.  I can still bundle her up in my arms, and so I did…and it felt wonderful.

I love you my little girl!  You are my world.
