Antarctica Bound

You read that right. Antarctica Bound.  Well…certainly not me, however my Hubby lost his job a week ago.  We had a darn good idea that he was going to. Hubby found a temporary position working for the National Science Foundation down in McMurdo Station in Antarctica.  Stars are lined up and away he will be going…about 48 hours of travel..Madison to Denver to Los Angeles to Sydney to Auckland to Christchurch to McMurdo.

When we told our Daughter, she was so cute…thought that she would be upset.  No…here’s a direct quote from our 7-year-old party animal…”Oooooh that means Mommy and I can get into lots of trouble!”  Not to sure on how my StepDaughter feels yet…she was nervous at first, however after looking at a few links of where Daddy will be she seems to be less worried.

My feelings… I’m excited for Hubby to have such an adventure…hoping the journey will recharge him a bit.  Somehow he needs to get into a positive mindset…this might just be the emotional detox he needs!  For Hubby it will be 3 months of frigid weather, hard work, accomplishment, camaraderie and space. For me it will be 3 months of hopefully not to frigid weather, hopefully not too much snow (or I’ll have to shovel it all each morning), hard work keeping things balanced at home, stress (gotta get through the holidays without my buddy to lean on), accomplishment, camaraderie (I’ll find an escape somehow) and space.  Um yeah, no space really, Daughter and I will be causing tons of trouble right??? Yeah…you know we will!  Oh, I know I’m also going to miss my honey terribly.  It will be difficult to be apart, yet the time will go quickly.

So, in a few short weeks, Hubby will be on his way…and a bloggin I will be!

Smoochies!

  1. I’m going to start a group on Stepchicks for Stepmoms without Husbands :-) will email you both after I create it

  2. I’m trying to get a midwest SM mixer together. Right now we’ve got a few Illinoisians, an Ohioan, a couple of Wisconsites, and an Indianaian. Peggy — you’re from NH, right?

Trying to figure out where in the Midwest everyone could meet up!

    • You are so good! Didn’t you say something about your superb organizing abilities???? You rock!

Let me know if you need help with the planning!

  3. We need to form a Stepmom whose Husband Travels Group :-)

    • You are so right! We do! Or at least lunch…are my hints blatant enough yet??? Is Peggy a Midwest girl?? Would be so fun!

  4. You can do this!!

My husband will be deployed to the mideast for a year beginning in August…

And I’ll be visiting you here to lend my support whenever you need it!

    • Wow! A whole year? Geez think of alllll the projects you could do around the house… Sorry…that’s how my mind wraps around the absence. I’ve got painting with fun colors planned, fabric for curtains ordered (now I just have to sew them!). I’m bad…but in a good way. I figure if I keep busy time will go quicker!

      • step – I have all kinds of projects lined up for all his short absences leading up to the BIG deployment.

Hec, I’m starting a radio show while he’s gone for 10 days in early November! YIKES.

And my creativity is already busting out…I spent an hour today capturing the beauty of fall in my little town in NH…and I’m seriously thinking about getting back into the card making business…(I used to make photo cards until my exhusband told me I wasn’t that good…even though people were PAYING for them…why did I listen to him and put down the camera?)

At any rate, I’m off to print out 120 images so that I can make some funky fall collage for my wall…

  5. Melissa,

Holy Holy Moly.We will have you over for dinner, playdates, whatever you need or want.

Let’s make a date for November.

    xo

    • Vodka…I will want vodka…and a shoulder! Okay coffee too….but you signed your big kid up for late session…how dare you!!! You dashed my Victor Allen Bloggy Sunday morning’s with Ms. Rants dream!!! Shame on you!

  6. It looks like an interesting place. It would take quite a bit to get me there…the flying alone would be too much, and the last flight is via a cargo plane…. Ummmmm yeah no thanks. I’ll leave that adventure to my Hubby.

I thought of you immediately when this whole thing came up. I knew your Hubby was traveling tons, and that you would be a wonderful shoulder to lean on! Oh, life sure does take us on interesting paths sometimes…

  7. So my husband wants to take me to McMurdo Station…some day. It’s one of his “bucket list” places.

As for him being away. You will get through this. I promise, you will. You’ll find you have really strong days and weak days. There will be days you’ll be damning him for leaving and other days you’ll like the time to figure out more of who you are.

My husband has been traveling the world because of work for the past 8 months. Each gig I thought seemed to take forever. Now, I can’t even fathom him living at home with us. (us being my stepkids and I).
