“I am not a hero. There is nothing special about me. I have never wanted special attention. I was only willing to do what was asked of me and what seemed necessary at the time.” ~Miep Gies
Miep Gies was one of my personal heroes, and was known as a hero by many. However, Miep Gies never thought of what she did as being heroic and was uncomfortable being thought of as one…she just did what she felt was right. Miep Gies responded when others were blinded by ignorance or fear…her actions are a reminder not to turn our backs on others…no matter how ugly our world might seem….

May her memory be for a blessing

Not only that, but I read today that one of the reasons she refused to be described as a hero was that she was afraid that by heroising the basic human duty of compassion, it made acts like hers seem “above and beyond” what is expected of people, and she didn’t want that.
An incredible attitude, I think.
Miep was such an incredible woman who did so much for those hiding in The Secret Annex, and for the little girl would become a Voice for The Jewish Children who were Murdered by an Evil Nazi Government.
100 years old.
She lived a long life, and she did a lot of good in those 100 years.
God Bless Miep Gies.
The world needs more like Miep.
I heard about her passing this morning. We’ve truly lost an angel on earth.
I’ve left a blog award for you on my blog!
